Stainless wedge wire screens are our number one seller to the DIY person looking at extracting free water from a sand aquifer, or the professional driller who installs sand spear systems.
The reason being is they can stop the finest sand from entering your pump, they have the strongest mechanical strength allow these types of sand spears to be hammered or driven into the ground.
Being made from wedge wire, it stops blockages as it allows the small particles of sand to go through and not get locked as in a slotted screen. Plus, they are chemical resistance for long life.
The SIS system is designed around using 2” standard pipe components, so that top and bottom ends and connections can be easily adapted to suit your drilling or installation method easily.
It doesn’t matter if you are driving, jetting, or bailing in, the ends and connections can be easily and quickly changed to suit your installation method.
These are the only sand spears that can be mechanically driven into the ground, as they have the highest mechanical strength than any other sand-spear.
The dimensions of the sand-spears are 60mm od of the screen, 70mm od on the welded fittings on the end, a inside diameter of 48mm, screen length 600mm, overall, approximately 900mm.
These types of Sandspears are known by many different names, lowering spears, drive points, spear points, wash down screen, water screen and more.
Non return valve can be fitted if needed, but are unnecessary
Plus – they can be specially made in a range of diameters and up to 6m in length.
The PVC Wedge Wire constructed Sandspear is a fantastic choice, as it meets the majority of factors needed in having a successful sand-spear insulation.
It is light weight, yet strong, the price is excellent, and it has an much higher open area than the Pvc slotted pipe, and it still fits standard Pvc pressure pipe fittings as well as our SIS components need for the installation method you are using.
There are two major differences than compared to the stainless wedge wire sand spear, one is the aperture, where the stainless is 0.15mm the Pvc wedge wire is 0.25mm, thus allowing a little a slightly larger sand particle to pass through. The other side is, it does not have the mechanical strength that the stainless does, therefore it is not suitable for the driving method of installation.
This has the best value for money, for a Sandspear, due to its cost, open area and aperture, plus its ease to suit the different range of fittings, just add glue and push it on.
Due to the wedge shape wire, particles of sand that would get trapped in a slotted pipe, will now pass through, limiting the possibility of being blocked.
Due to the specialized mechanical machines and manufacturing methods there is a limited range of sizes and lengths available.
Our sand spear range is 50mm NB, this has a od of 60mm, 70mm over the fittings, approx. 800mm in length plus fittings, inside diameter is 47mm.
The PVC slotted sand-spear is a product that has been sold for over thirty years, with success, it has mainly been used in the drilling industry as a water well bore screen.
This is why it can be used as a sand spear, due to all the experiences that have come from this field.
The downside of this is they have a lower mechanical strength compared to the stainless sand spears, this makes them unsuitable for driving or taking mechanical blows, the slots that are in the pipe are machined in the pipe, this method only allows for a small open area, to ensure structure integrity, plus being a straight slot are more likely to be blocked by sand particles, compared to the wedge wire type Sandspears.
The SIS system is designed around 50mm PN18 Pvc pipe, which is a standard Australian made product and fits off the shelf fittings and our SIS specialized ends, these are changed due to your installation method.
If you are looking for a budget type Sandspear then this is the one for you as it is the cheapest in the range.
The other positive for this type is that we can adapt sizes lengths, easily as being a local made component and with our specialized slotting machines, they can be made to suit your needs easily
One offs can be completed much easier than the wedge wire type.
The dimensions of the 50mm Sandspear are 60mm od of the screen, 70mm od of the fittings. Length= 800mm, plus fittings, with an inside diameter of 48mm.
Sand point filters or sand spears are designed for shallow installation in a sand aquifer.
It is used to draw water from an artesian water table or aquifer. It allows you to withdraw water via a pump and stopping sand from penetrating the screen and entering your pump, as sand is a killer of pumps.
The top of the sand spear is a std 50mm pressure pipe socket, glue a fitting or directly onto your Pvc riser. 316 stainless mesh and bands.
It is made from 50mm pressure pipe for strength and a long life underground, slotted and 0.25mm stainless mesh.
Designed to give an excellent and efficient flow of water.
These can also be used a dry bed creek, a running creek, dams, and tanks.
Non return valve can be fitted if needed.
Price includes delivery anywhere in Australia
Please note these can be made in different diameters, lengths, and end fittings
Plus – prepacked screens are available if needed.
